Remembering You is Worth the Pain Now the scent of tea and blueberries
Becomes an unbearable stench to me;
Now I can't bear to see her face
That pools your shadow, and her sympathy:
These harmless little moments,
Given meaning from all else in life;
Have grown teeth just so suddenly
From when nothing again will be alright.

Why is it not strange
To be pained by your imposing absence;
When I still have you beside me
Forever in your essence?
As I still carve your shape
In the air with loving fingers;
Then inhale the toxins of that cavity
When daydreams no longer linger.

Trapped in a time and place
Where your warmth no longer stays
Shoulders caged by the perfe

Another YearIn a future
Not far away
(Not far enough, I'd say)
It'll be your birthday
And your birthday
Then your birthday again;
With every cake a pinwheel
That turns on your passing presence;
And every candle a beacon
Lighting the world with your existence.

By then our best and brightest well-wishes
May only hang;
Lost stars beyond you
Their tired whispers
Naturally sandpapered
By light years' worth in travels;
Before they sleep
In the ancient deep
Waters of eternity;
Your night-like hair as their cradle.

And thus in this churchyard of our memories
It is they that cause to wane
Your morning-years' full ebony
To the white of their

SilenceSilence.

Silence is standing under a too-large sky
in an immense junkyard;
with no words to describe:
studying the lines of naked steel
and dusty glass shards set in yellow.

How suddenly something so normal;
so massive in your life
(past)
now lies there;
unreal and comically crumpled.

You still remember the summer job. Tired nights cooking greasy fast food;
and an uncle's loan.
Hot summer days spent
painting its threadbare green-grey
a taxi's yellow;
nights looking at college forms.
Feeling so certain and afraid
because of your family's needs,
but with no less
regret.

Then the cold.
The burning freeze

Of Birds and BirdsongCurdled from the milk
Of the freshest valleys
Distilled off the leaves
Wind-soaked
Then folded and sewn into fine infinity
On the little apples of their throats.

Dressed by the sun
In the slim veils of her wings
Adorning the blue matrix,
They float;
Fearless alike of her molten breathing
Or of being lost amidst the grey boats.

Steered by the stars
Since the birth of consciousness
T'hear Gaia's lonely call;
Timed to her invisible, pulsing harmonies
That they imitate
For the ears of all.
